Oscar Wilde
Retold by Gaia Ierace
Oscar Wilde’s wonderfully satirical yet comical account of an American family living in England, has lent itself beautifully to adaptation in this book.
Young children easily relate to the Otis twins, as they endeavour to frighten the Canterville Ghost.
Children also become acquainted with a renowned Irish author, discover something about two different cultures, and learn English at the same time.
Each chapter is preceded by a picture dictionary which helps children understand – some of the less common words, and sparks off pre-reading classroom discussions.
Following each chapter is a multiple-choice reading comprehension, a ‘fun activity’ – such as a word square, listen and match, colouring in and much more. There is also an acting activity which encourages even the shyest child to learn and speak English.
The accompanying CD is of course an essential prop for rehearsals.
